WEIL
ALBERT CHARLES "AL/ABBY"
Albert Charles "Al/Abby" Weil passed peacefully on May 16, 2026, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born August 3, 1932, to Stella and Albert Weil, he grew up with his younger sister, Donice Cheroki, and carried throughout his life a love of music, cooking, and gardening.
Al was the devoted husband of 69 years to Louise "Weezy" Weil (Gruendl). Together they raised six children: Cathy Szemanski (Mark), Lisa Shuck (Jim), Linda Woolverton (Morgan), Paul Weil (Michele), Tim Weil (Susan), and Mary Boyle (Bob).
He was a proud "Pappap" to his grandchildren: Tom and Michelle (Andrew) Szemanski; David and Jessie (Corey) Woolverton; Saxony and Trent Weil; Kim Carpenter, Marc (Amanda) Davis; and Calvin (Heidi), Quinn, and Reece Boyle. He delighted in spoiling them, sharing his cooking, and entertaining them.
He served in the US Army before returning home to marry Louise and begin their life together. Al worked as a pipe coverer, rising to supervisor, and approached both his work and home life with dedication.
In his youth, Al rarely missed a chance to dance! He later nurtured thriving gardens of flowers, vegetables, and houseplants. Al was a man with two green thumbs. His other pleasures were fishing, reading, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins.
In his honor, consider planting something, dancing to your favorite song, or cheering on a Pittsburgh team — no matter the score.
A celebration of Al's life will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15236.
A Blessing Service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Military honors will be performed at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
Tree Planting Timeline
