BOYD
ALBERTA I.
Age 95, of Mount Lebanon, passed away peacefully, on September 29, 2025. The sun glimmered brightly through the window, the outside air was fresh and warm, and the symphonic, classical music she loved played softly in the background. Alberta gently held her Bible, and was surrounded by Lisa and Jim, as she wanted, as serenity came upon her. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Gergins and the late Robert Boyd; devoted mother of Robert (Adrienne) Gergins and Lisa (Jim) Wentzel and the late David Gergins; devoted stepmother of Patricia (Jack) Ley, Deborah (Joe) Cochran and Robert Boyd; sister of the late Michael Ignelzi; also survived by several cousins and numerous wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alberta graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952 and went on to teach high school Math at several schools in the city of Pittsburgh and the suburbs of Mt. Lebanon and Peters Township. To all of her friends and family, she was known for her kindness, generosity, and love of singing in and traveling with her church choir and playing with the church bell team. Alberta is most proud of the tireless work she spent, in honor of her son, David, to secure the first Ronald McDonald House in Pittsburgh, which opened in 1979.
She ignored her pain, and in her ever-determined manner, loved to attend church functions, play bridge, go to movies, attend the Pittsburgh Symphony and Benedum Center shows, travel to Florida, and visit with friends and her grandchildren. She was a member of the PEO and helped with the Keynotes Music for Mt. Lebanon Scholarship. Alberta may physically be gone, however, her love rests in our hearts, her strength in our minds and her passion for life in our memories. The family is forever grateful to the wonderful, kind, caring, and empathetic staff at the Friendship Village Assisted Living facility in Upper St. Clair, as well as, the Gallagher Hospice of Bridgeville team, both of whom advocated for her, and ensured Alberta's wishes, endless happiness, and supreme comfort were met.
Family and friends will be welcomed to a Celebration of Life service at Southminster Presbyterian Church, November 1, at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh, or the Southminster Presbyterian Church, with Music Ministry in the memo line, 799 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228.
