GUMBESKI JR.
ALEXANDER WALTER
Age 92, of Marshall Township, was the beloved husband to the late Doris Jean Gumbeski for 67 years; a loving father to Sharon Elizabeth Endler, Holly Lynn Gumbeski and the late Michael Alexander Gumbeski; grandfather to Andrew Michael Endler, Alexander James Endler and Charlotte Elizabeth Endler; and a devoted brother to Charlotte Beiter, the late Thelma Avolio and the late Marion Parks. Alex was also the brother-in-law to David Bosley, Judy Spicer, Janice Kuehn, the late Shirley Black, Carol Habicht and Donald Bosley; and uncle to 24 nieces and nephews. Alex was the son of the late Alexander Walter Gumbeski, Sr. and Elizabeth Suich.
Alex was a graduate of Langley High School, joined the army and graduated from Officers Training School. He attended Duquesne University, while working several jobs. Alex retired from Duquesne Light Electric Company in April of 1995 after over 37 years of distinguished service from various positions, his last being as a Purchasing Agent.
Alex and Doris worked tirelessly making a beautiful home and garden. The modest house he and Doris purchased in the mid sixties was transformed room by room into a warm and welcoming home for family and friends. There was also an ever-changing menagerie of wonderful animals from dogs, bunnies, duckies and assorted recurring "visitors" of backyard deer, raccoons, squirrels and birdies that also enjoyed elaborately built "homes" of their own. The garden and fruit trees provided plentiful canning and freezing of wonderful produce that he often shared with his neighbors.
Alex also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years with his cousins, brother-in-law, Ted Beiter, son, Michael and nephew, Teddy.
Alex, along with his wife and family, were faithful members of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian and Crossroads Presbyterian Churches and enjoyed singing in the choir, attending adult Sunday School and always lending a hand with maintenance and improvement projects. His ever-faithful, loving and encouraging church family, especially in his final years of his life, tremendously blessed Alex with visits, gifts, laughter and care. Alex will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Family will welcome friends to SCHELLHAAS AND SONS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, at 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143, (Franklin Park), Time and Date to Be Determined.
