ALICE T. (BREK)

Age 94, of Upper St. Clair, born on August 5, 1930, in Gary, IN, and passed away on June 15, 2025. Alice was married for 57 years to her husband, who predeceased her, Thomas F. McGuire. She was a graduate of Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and was employed as a math and grammar schoolteacher in the Gary Public School System and taught GED classes in the evenings. A longtime member of the Jednota organization, Alice was strong willed and a devout Catholic who enjoyed vegetable gardening, arts and crafts, engaging neighbors in conversation and giving great tax advice. Her family was her pride and joy, and she enjoyed every moment spent laughing, joking, storytelling and having a good time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Elizabeth Brek, as well as by her sister, Mary Berndt. Survived by her four adoring children: Kevin (Deborah Ganelin), Patrick (Mary Jo), Brendan (Elizabeth), and Karen (Scott) Hamilton. Also survived by her ten grandsons: A.J., Gabriel, Michael (Maria Camila), Marty, Matthew (Lindsay) Hamilton, Jack (Colleen), Kaelan, Keith (Joanna) Hamilton, Tim Hamilton and Patrick, as well as by her great-grandchildren: Calvin and Cato Hamilton and Vienna McGuire. Also survived by sisters-in-law Peggy Stahura (Chesterton, IN), Jean McGuire (Cedar Lake, IN) and cousin, Alice Lavelle (Pittsburgh), along with many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Resurrection Parish, St. Thomas More Church. Entombment in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
