ANNE L. (JOHNSON) SNYDER Obituary

North Huntingdon, PA - Anne L. (Johnson) Snyder, 92, of North Huntingdon, passed away Friday, April 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was born November 19, 1933, in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John E. Johnson and Sarah A. (Golding) Johnson Hill.

After graduating from Philipsburg Area High School in 1951, Anne ventured to Washington, D.C., where she worked for a William Randolph Hearst newspaper while preparing for the civil service exam. Following the sudden death of her father, she returned to her hometown to support her mother and younger sisters, going back to her job at the local movie theater. It was there, on a warm August day, that two friends came to see a show --one of whom lingered in the lobby to speak with the pretty usher, Anne. By Christmas Day, Anne and George were engaged and married by April. Their partnership endured for 60 years, until George's passing in December 2012.

Anne and George began their life together in State College before settling in North Huntingdon, where they raised six children. Seemingly tireless, Anne always found a way to donate her time and talent to others. After her youngest started school, she volunteered to teach reading and literacy skills, walking from Huntingdon Heights to then Junior High East several times a week. A long-time member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school for many years, was active in the Women's Circle, and rarely missed a Thursday Bible Study, always wanting to deepen her knowledge and faith. Anne was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star.

What most defined Anne was her steady, quiet leadership. Grounded in her faith and deeply devoted to her family, she embodied warmth, openness, and kindness as a mother, grandmother, and friend. Her memory was remarkable, her wit quick and often unexpected -- but perhaps most unforgettable was her laughter, and how easily she would dissolve into joyful giggles. Anne's lifelong love of reading remained constant, still discussing books and authors until her passing. And though her library was full of many epic stories, it is her own story, rich with faith, family, and love, that will continued to be shared by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband George R. Snyder, her son-in-law Bruce R. Stewart, and two sisters, Catherine Sanderson and Patricia Melius. She is survived by her children Georgia Stewart, Barbara (Joseph) Kayda, Lynda (Andy Baran) Snyder, Roberta (Randy) Harriger, Dr. Gary (Dr. Stella Volpe) Snyder, and CDR Patti (Gene Block) Snyder, USN, Ret. She loved being Grammie and delighted in her nine grandchildren: Benjamin Stewart, Joshua Stewart (Charles Guthrie), Thomas Kayda (Rebecca), Elizabeth (Kayda) Glenn (Brandon), Emily (Baran) Faust (Jake), Sarah (Harriger) Robertson, Emily Harriger, Sophia Patti, and Emerson Patti, along with her nine great-grandchildren: Thatcher, Addison, Annsley, Aytumn, Parker, Noah, Brooks, Elaina, and Sawyer. She is also survived by a sister Sally (Edward) Moskel, any many cherished nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sarah Lee-Faulkner, officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Irwin. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Irwin, Pa. For online condolences please visit:
