ANNE WATERSON

Anne Waterson Gordon, a longtime librarian at Carnegie Library and the University of Pittsburgh, died Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Brookdale Penn Hills Assisted Living Home; she was 92. Mrs. Gordon, the daughter of Karl William Waterson and Pauline Darling Waterson, grew up in New Jersey and Vermont. She graduated from the Kent Place School in Summit, NJ, and Swarthmore College. Mrs. Gordon earned a master's degree in art history at Radcliffe College, where she met her husband, art historian, Donald E. Gordon, who was earning a doctorate in art history at Harvard. They married in 1957. The Gordons lived in New York City, Carlisle, PA, and Pittsburgh. After her two children were born, she enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and earned a master's degree in library science. She started her career as a librarian at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and later moved to the University of Pittsburgh, where she served as the librarian for the art history department and then as a reference librarian at Hillman Library. After retirement, she enjoyed reading, walking in Pittsburgh and traveling to historic parts of Pennsylvania and other states. She loved good food, beautiful scenery and the company of her family. Mrs. Gordon is survived by her daughter, Richelle "Rich" Gordon, of Evanston, IL; her son, Thomas Hale Gordon, of Pittsburgh; her grandson, Conrad Gordon of Hyde Park, IL; and her longtime companion, Bernard Goldstein, of Washington, DC. In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be arranged at a later date. Arrangements by JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC.
