ARCHIBALD C.
Archibald Cameron MacLennan passed away peacefully at home in Scott Township on June 12, 2026. Arch was born September 24, 1934, in San Francisco to Fred and Ethel MacLennan. Arch is survived by his loving wife Patty of 30 years; daughter, Susan Merriman (Rod) of Chester, CA; daughter, Jennifer Atwood of Portland, OR; granddaughter, Katie Atwood; and grandson, Jeremy Atwood; great-grandchildren, Parker, Riley, and Avery Atwood.
Arch served in the United States Army and was stationed in Monterey, CA, and the Presidio of San Francisco at the southern base of the Golden Gate Bridge. He always laughed and said he could look across the bay and almost see his parent's house.
Arch attended Oakland Tech High School and San Francisco State University, where he graduated with a degree in labor relations. Upon graduation, Arch accepted a position with the Campbell's Soup Company in Sacramento, CA, and was eventually promoted to the corporate headquarters in Camden, NJ, where he was one of the three contract negotiators for all of the plants around the country. He worked for Campbell's for nine years until he accepted a position at Lazarus Department Stores in Columbus, OH, as the vice president of human resources and labor relations for five years. Arch left Lazarus to accept a position with British American Tobacco's Retail Group (BATUS) for Gimbels in Pittsburgh as vice president of human resources and labor relations. This started his long career with BATUS. He was promoted to New York City as executive vice president of Gimbels Corporate. In 1980, BATUS moved him in the same position to Kohls and then to Breuner's Furniture, headquartered in the Bay Area of San Francisco. Arch moved to Pittsburgh in 1994, and he married his wife, Patty, in 1996 and accepted a position at Pittsburgh Transportation as vice president of human resources.
Arch was passionate all of his life about playing golf and was a member of Chartiers Country Club for 30 years. Arch enjoyed traveling, especially to Scotland, where most of his father's family lives.
