BARBARA (GEIGER)

Age 87, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Lifelong resident of Edgewood. Mom went peacefully, surrounded by her family and her favorite kitties. Loving wife of the late Lewis Carl Dempsey. Loving mother of Pamela Lynn Dempsey Wright (Joseph James Christl, Jr.) and the late Steven Lyle Dempsey. Dear grandmother of Michael Patrick Dempsey, Sean Lewis Wright, Joshua John Wright and Tyler Lewis Dempsey. Barbara witnessed many changes within and surrounding Edgewood, like the building of the Parkway East and the bridge at the top of Maple Avenue. She and her family would picnic in that space prior to the parkway development. Mom absolutely loved her friends and neighbors, young and old. She enjoyed talking and laughing with them on her front porch, where she could be seen on most sunny days. Baseball was another pastime of Barbara's. Every year it was a tradition to attend a game or two with her family and friends. Barbara worked at Carnegie Mellon University, where she proudly retired after 27 years at the age of 77. Mom was a diehard supporter of the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department, where her son, Steve, served in office and on the truck for many years. Barbara was an avid tennis player in her earlier days and could be seen playing tennis at the Edgewood club and various other tennis courts within the area. Mom also enjoyed running, walking and reading. Mom spent many hours at the Edgewood Library which was a family staple. Friends received Friday, 9-11 A.M., at the THOMAS L. NIED FUNERAL HOME INC., 7441 Washington Street, Swissvale. A Service will be held at the funeral home, on Friday morning, at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations made to the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department and/or the Edgewood Library.
