BARBARA J. DUNCAN Obituary
DUNCAN
BARBARA J.
Age 76, of Pittsburgh, died peacefully in her sleep, Monday, May 11, in her Shadyside apartment.
She was the daughter of Robert and Margaret Lang Duncan, and grew up in Slippery Rock.
She graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1966, and from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1970.
Barb moved to New York City and spent her career years in the disability rights field, both in New York and later California, living in Los Angeles and Oakland.
She loved traveling and her career and vacations took her to wonderful places: China, Russia, Africa, and Europe, for international conventions, Kauai, Hawaii, Cape May, NJ and Italy were among her favorite spots.
Barb loved all art, and her walls were always decorated with collections of masks, posters and paintings from her travels. She kept in touch with friends and family around the world, and often displayed a wicked sense of humor with all of them. A true New Yorker, she loved Broadway plays and all genres of movies. Agatha Christie's detective stories were her favorite.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a sister, Debora R. Duncan of New Kensington; brothers, R. David Duncan of Pittsburgh and Karl Duncan of Wayne, PA; and two nephews, Duncan Scott Spencer of Washington, D.C. and Killian J. Duncan of Wayne. Burial at Allegheny Cemetery is private.
