BERNARD "BERNIE"

Age 92, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025. Born and raised in Pittsburgh. He was a University of Pittsburgh graduate, where he played football and earned recognition as an outstanding athlete. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, he earned his law degree from the University of Illinois and went on to practice law for more than 50 years.

Bernie approached his work with discipline, fairness, and good humor. Known for his integrity, sharp intellect, and steady judgment, he built enduring relationships across both his professional and personal worlds.

Bernie gave generously of his time to many nonprofit organizations but was most proud of his years as Chairman of the Board for The Salvation Army, where his leadership and compassion left a lasting mark on the community he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Janet, with whom he shared an extraordinary marriage filled with loyalty, laughter, and love. He was the devoted father of Traci Rollins (Jeff), Jodi Amos (Bryan) and Eric Eisen; and the extraordinarily proud grandfather of Daniel, Ian (Avijit) Samantha, and Alexandra — each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.

Bernie remained an athlete in both spirit and practice, playing basketball at the Rivers Club in Pittsburgh until the age of 75.

Fifteen years ago, he and Janet moved to Naples, Florida, where they embraced sunshine, golf, friends, and family. Yet Pittsburgh always remained home, the city that shaped his values, his friendships, and his enduring sense of loyalty.

Those who knew Bernie will remember his dry humor, kind heart, gentle strength, and quiet generosity. He lived with humility and conviction, leading by example rather than words. His legacy endures in the values he instilled and the love he gave so freely.

A Memorial Service followed by Visitation will be held Monday, November 17, from 1-4 p.m., at Beth El Congregation, 1900 Cochran Road, Mt. Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Salvation Army or to a charity meaningful to you.
