CARL J.


Age 79, of Brighton Heights, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Beloved son of the late Michael and Pauline Spitz; devoted brother of Loretta Spitz; also survived by many cousins.



Carl earned a master's degree from CMU and worked for 40 years at Bettis Atomic Power Lab as a nuclear design engineer. In his retirement he enjoyed running, musical theater, gardening, and his cat, "Petchka."



Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the THOMAS P. KUNSAK FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3552 California Avenue at Davis Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Cyril of Alexandria Church. Interment to follow in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.



In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Animal Friends (562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237) or Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh (4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224).
