CARMEN

A devoted father, grandfather, and proud Italian, passed away on March 23, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on July 26, 1942, in Donora, PA, Carmen lived a life defined by love, kindness, and personality. Handsome and full of charm, he had an instant connection with anyone who shared his love of being Italian, cheered for the Pittsburgh Steelers, or called Pittsburgh home. Carmen lived life with rhythm; his feet and hands were always tapping, ready to find a willing dance partner. His dance card was always full. He found joy in the simple moments that brought people together. A talented metallurgical engineer, Carmen held several patents throughout his career. As proud as he was of his work accomplishments, his greatest pride and joy was his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rita, who passed at the age of 57; and his son, Paul, at the age of 24. He is survived by his children, Mark Manzonelli, Laura Helmer, and Michelle Darr; and his cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Gianna, Jacob, Olivia, and Adria. He loved nothing more than having everyone together, especially when he shared his signature thin Pittsburgh pancakes and the Sunday family tradition of sauce and meatballs. Carmen's legacy is one of love, laughter, and togetherness. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His story doesn't end here; it lives on in every dance step, every shared meal, and in all of us. Family and friends are welcomed to join in the Funeral Mass at St. Paul Cathedral on Saturday, May 23, at 10:00am, followed by inurnment at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Greenfield, where Carmen will be laid to rest alongside his wife, Rita, and his son, Paul.
