CAROL EMILIE SLATE

Carol Emilie Kane (née Slate), 84, passed away at her home in Shaler Township, PA on December 27, 2025. Born on October 16, 1941, she loved theatre, film, ballet, reading, photography, sewing, scrapbooking, cardmaking, and spending time with all whom she called family. Carol, age 84, was happily married to her best friend John for 62 years after meeting at a theatre camp in Ossining, NY. She worked as a church secretary for 19 years at McKnight United Methodist and was a current and active member of Oaklands Presbyterian Church in Laurel MD. Carol is survived by her husband John, sister Jane Borman (Ed), sisters-in-spirit Debbie Mitchell and Joni Mainier; daughters Christine (Pete Atchison) and Stephanie (Bill Mainier); son-in-law Jimmy Rohm; grandchildren Alley Rohm (Mark Lloyd Watson, II), Schuyler Mainier, and Jesy and Sara Littlejohn, great-grandchildren Toby and Charlie; nephew John Carpenter; cousins Leigh and Doug Seaver, Robert and Nancy Slate; and a gaggle of grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Charlotte and Burleigh Seaver, parents Emilie and Olle Van Connet Slate, uncle Bill Seaver, dear friends Big Don and Betty Gingrich, brothers-in-spirit Terry Mitchell and Vince Mainier, cousin greg Seaver, and nephew Steven Carpenter. In keeping with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. The family appreciates your thoughts and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre or another organization that supports arts education and performance. Carol will be deeply missed.
