SCHUTRICK
CARRIE ANNE
In 1976 on a cold, snowy winter morning in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Carrie Anne Schutrick was born just two days after the end of January in a hospital amid chaotic noise and activity - as all people should be born. The event was witnessed by a roomful of parents, doctors, and nurses and elicited pride and joy among all her family. In 2026, on a cold, snowy winter morning in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Carrie Anne Schutrick died just two days before the end of January in her living room amid calm, peaceful, silence. The event elicited sadness and nostalgia among all her family and myriad friends. Carrie had fallen victim to complications arising from her treatment for a form of "childhood" leukemia, a disease with which she had been diagnosed just 3 months earlier. As though she knew her life would be far too short, Carrie allowed herself little time to be idle. She was a master of crafts - particularly knitting and the like. She was a mainstay of the Society for Creative Anachronism, and a regular at its annual Pennsic War. Whether role-playing at a table or online, she found magic in every world. Between her dedicated service to Allegheny County's less fortunate and her voracious speed reading (at times a book a day), she still found time to write volumes of fan fiction - and most importantly, to build a chosen family that never doubted her love. Early in life, Carrie yearned to be an opera singer. Music remained an important part of her life, as she sang well and often, but never professionally. Her parents forced her into enjoyment of 60s pop, but she enjoyed many generations of popular music. Carrie is survived by her mother, Connie Schutrick of Irwin; her father, John Schutrick of Pittsburgh, and her companion, William Trimmer of Pittsburgh. She had a large extended family over the course of her life as well, but her mainstay was the family that she created for herself - her multitude of friends - none of whom has even the slightest harsh word nor doubt about how much she loved and needed them. Carrie Schutrick was an excellent human being full of compassion, love, joy, and life. Every person whose life she touched, whether personally or professionally, will miss her more than even she could express through her own talented, creative words. Carrie's feelings for the powerless, human or animal, would doubtless lead her to insist that any funds that might otherwise be spent on flowers and the like be directed instead to such institutions as Save the Children, or your local animal shelter, or directly to someone in need in your own neighborhood. Plans are in the works for a memorial event in the spring. Announcements will be sent to extended family and friends. Professional services trusted to D'ALESSANDRO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY LTD., Lawrenceville.
