McCASHIN

CATHERINE "CATHY" MARY (DONAHUE)

Of Murrysville, formerly of Monroeville, passed away peacefully at her home, on Monday, December 1, 2025, surrounded by family. Cathy was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Mark McCashin; and her parents, Frank and Marie Donahue.

Cathy is survived by her four children, Christyn (Jay) McAndrew of Westfield, NJ, Brian (Debbie) McCashin of Medina, OH, Laura (Shane) Muro of Level Green and Stephen (Jennie) McCashin of Orinda, CA; in addition to her brother, Kevin (Maryalice) Donahue of Walkersville, MD.

She lived for her 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Hayley, Shane, Hannah, Erin, Mia, Michael, Danny, Brooke, Brianna, Maeve, Teddy, Millie, Hugh and Landon.

A true New Yorker at heart, Cathy was born in the Bronx, NY, on September 24, 1949. She grew up attending school at St. Nicholas Tolentine Catholic Church, surrounded by her brother and cousins, who remained more like siblings for the rest of her life. There she met her husband, Mark, and they were married in May of 1971.

Mark's job moved their growing family first to Iowa in 1977 and then to Pittsburgh in 1980. At the time, Mark told her they would only be in Pittsburgh for a few years, but Pittsburgh became their forever home. They raised their children in Monroeville.

Always a hard worker, Cathy returned to work once her children were in school, where she worked in the special education department at Woodland Hills School District for many years.

Always comfortable in her role as a matriarch, Cathy preferred to be "in charge." She served as the swim team coordinator for Haymaker swim team for almost 20 years and organized the banquets for the Gateway High School swim team from 1987-1997. Her passion for cheering on her kids and grandkids at swim meets and soccer games is part of her legacy. She often joked "I need to remind myself to calm down."

For her 75th birthday, Cathy visited Ireland with her four children, her first trip there since the late 1960s. While in Ireland, she listened to live music and found cousins still living on the same property where her grandfather was born in the late 1800s, before he boarded a boat for New York at the age of 18.

Cathy loved dogs and socializing. She made so many friends along the way and cherished her relationships with co-workers at Woodland HIlls, in addition to neighbors in Monroeville and later Franklin Towne.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 1:30 to 5:30, at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100).
