HUGHES

CEIRIOG

Ceiriog Hughes, of McCandless, passed away August 2, 2025, peacefully at home. He was born November 5, 1945, in Rhos Wrexham, Wales.

Much loved husband for 56 years to Heather; father of Julie and Wendy; Taid to Dyllin; brother of Ian Hughes (Heulwen) and the late Arfona Breeze; brother-in-law to Ina Williams; and uncle to John, Beth, Linda and Aled.

Born and raised in Wales, Ceiriog began his life working as a Mining Mechanical Engineer for the National Coal Board, an honest and demanding profession that reflected his unwavering work ethic and strength of character. Deeply proud of his Welsh heritage, he carried a lifelong love for his homeland wherever he went.

In pursuit of a better future for his family, Ceiriog made the courageous decision to emigrate to the United States with his wife and their two young daughters. He began his American journey with Dowty Corporation, where he spent many years before going on to serve as Vice President at Halbach & Braun for over a decade. During this time, both he and Heather became U.S. citizens on March 18, 1994. Eventually, he founded his own company, Longwall Services, Inc. (LSI), building a life and legacy grounded in hard work, resilience, and integrity. His favorite saying, "Find a job you enjoy doing, and you'll never have to work a day in your life," rang true throughout his long and fulfilling career, which he continued until the age of 75.

Ceiriog believed in working hard and playing hard. He was passionate about travel and made it a point to share that joy with his family, exploring many countries, creating lasting memories, and embracing every opportunity to experience life to the fullest. He touched many lives with his warmth, generosity, and signature sense of humor. Of all his accomplishments, one of his greatest joys was being "Taid" to his grandson, Dyllin, who held a special place in his heart and shares his passion for golf. Together, they shared countless hours in the garage, working on projects and creating things with their hands. Whether it was building, fixing, or simply tinkering, those moments were more than just work, they were opportunities to bond, to teach, and to create lasting memories. His legacy lives on through the values he embodied, the stories he told, and the adventures he shared. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Friends will be received Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at SCHELLHAAS & SONS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, LTD., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143 (Franklin Park/Wexford). A memorial service open to friends and family will be held in the funeral home on Friday, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Moni McIntyre officiating. A luncheon for friends and family will follow services in the funeral home banquet facility.

The family would like to extend a special thanks the wonderful friends and neighbors who have helped over the past two weeks, as well as Good Samaritan Hospice.
