CHARLES EDWARD CHUCK RUTTER Passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021 surrounded by his beloved family. Husband of 47 years to the love of his life, Cathy Emanuele Rutter whom he adored and loved beyond measure. The most devoted and all-giving daddy to his three children, Séan Rutter (Erin,) Genna Kicinski (Drew,) and Francesca Scappe (Anthony.) Working countless jobs to provide for his family, he always found time to make Saturday french toast for them, before heading to the zoo or aviary for the day. Nothing came before his family. The true sparkle in his kind blue eyes came with the birth of his nine grandchildren. He celebrated each of their accomplishments and was always an involved Pap Pap to Lewis, Ella, Charlie, Scotlyn, Tess, Ian, Vivian, Norah and Amara. Teacher and coach were how most referred to him, for he taught many years for the Diocese of Pittsburgh at Central Catholic and Seton LaSalle High schools. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, Chuck attended Michigan State University on a baseball scholarship. After graduation, he began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant for the Michigan State football team. He returned to Pittsburgh in 1970 and began his teaching career at Central Catholic High School and eventually Seton LaSalle High School until his retirement. His love for sports will live on in the countless athletes that he had coached, mentored and guided. Many still stayed close to him and included him as recently as last year coaching baseball at Seton LaSalle. They were his family as well. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street (freyvogelfuneralhome.com) on Saturday, August 28th from 3-6pm and on Sunday, August 29th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral Monday, August 30th, Mass of Christian Burial St. Paul Cathedral 1:30pm.

    He was my favorite golf coach. I won't ever forget the times he would stand in the middle of the fairway and tell you to aim for him all in the hope of making you a better player.

    I remember Chuck from my early days playing basketball in Morningside at St. Raphael's school yard. He was a mentor to alot of guys as we were growing up in the 1960's. Thank you Chuck for being a friend to so many of us. Peace.

    Chuck was a coach and mentor for me at Central. He along with Coach Scully asked me to help revive the freshman football program in 1973. Chuck gave me the reins over the defense and mentored me on strategy and how to be an effective coach. It is something that made my 42 years working at Penske so successful and rewarding. Chuck, I am forever grateful to you. When you see your brother in law and my very dear friend, Frankie, in heaven, please tell him I think about him every single day. Cathy, you are in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless you.
