Clarence R. Carpenter, age 97, of Pittsburgh, passed away on July 14, 2025.
As a young man, Clarence proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. His service instilled in him values of discipline and honor, which he carried throughout his life. He also enjoyed flying as a recreational pilot in his younger days.
Clarence was a member of the Planetary Society, embodying his love for science and space exploration. He also worked as a freelance author for technical magazines. He was recognized with a prestigious Presidential Award for Research and Development for his groundbreaking research on the Behavior of Minds, a testament to his intellect and innovative spirit.
An avid traveler and cruise enthusiast, he delighted in exploring new destinations and experiences. Above all, Clarence was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife unconditionally, and his love for his family remained unwavering throughout his life.
Clarence is survived by his children, Randy Carpenter, Glenn (Pamela) Carpenter, Beverly (Patrick) McGlynn, and Janice (Jake) McGlynn; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
Clarence is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Clarence Sr. and Victoria; and his siblings.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, and Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15236. A funeral service will take place on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in the funeral home's chapel. Burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
