DANIEL THOMAS

Age 61, of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and forever Pittsburgher, passed away quietly at home, on Friday, May 22, 2026, with his family by his side, following a brief, private battle with cancer. His wife and two sisters (his "Dream Team") loved and cared for him at home the last week of his precious life. He was born on February 23, 1965, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Patrick and Patricia (Harshman) Laffey.

He is survived by his loving parents; his wife, Jenny (Lightcap) of 23 years; his sisters, Lisa (Joe) Urich, Lynne (Tom) Badstibner, Lorelei Laffey; and brother, Dave (Ruth Anne); along with eight nieces and nephews: Andrea, Jared, Allison, Jessica, John, Michael, Andrew (AJ) and Julia; and a new generation of great-nieces and nephews that he was excited to watch grow-up.

He enjoyed sports, politics, good food, family, and friends (not always at the same time). He had a big heart for others in need and was so proud of the accomplishments of all his nieces and nephews (he enjoyed bragging about them to friends and neighbors). Full of energy and always on the move, Dan enjoyed various activities including hunting, shooting, boating, and travel and found his greatest joy in doing these things and many others with his nieces and nephews.

Dan graduated from North Allegheny High School in 1983, and obtained a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1987, and spent most of his career as the owner and operator of the business he started and grew in Charlotte, Carolina Hood & Fire Safety.

Only God knows why some of us get to spend more time here than others. Dan will be deeply missed by the family and friends that had the pleasure of knowing him for the short time with which God blessed him in this physical life.

Family will welcome friends on Friday, May 29, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at SCHELLHAAS & SONS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 1600 Stone Mansion Drive, Sewickley, PA 15143 (Franklin Park/Wexford). A Roman Catholic Mass and burial will be held on Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m., in Saints John and Paul Catholic Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, 2586 Wexford Bayne Road, Sewickley, PA 15143.
