PETRUSKA
DAVID JAMES
Age 77, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maria (Amantea) Petruska; and daughters, Megan (Shayne) Hale and Kristen (Christian) Misutka. He was a devoted husband, father and proud grandfather "Pap" to Vincent and Eleanor Misutka and Isaiah Hale.
David was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (Rosevitik) Petruska; and sisters, Mary Jane Petruska and Janet Petruska. Surviving are his sister, Kathryn (Charles) Schaeffer of Cincinnati; brother, John (Carol) Petruska of Turtle Creek; sister, Judy (Art) Snyder of Murrysville, and six nieces and their families.
David was a 1966 graduate of Gateway High School and attended Youngstown State University. He served in the Army National Guard from 1970 to 1977. For most of his career, he was self-employed selling automotive tools and equipment. Nearing retirement, he served as Manager of the Monroeville Sports Center. He also served on the Monroeville Soccer Club board and coached Megan's and Kristen's soccer teams for many years.
In his retirement, David could often be found spending time with his family, biking, singing country songs on the elliptical at LA Fitness, delivering Meals on Wheels in Monroeville, or serving at the Pitcairn Food Bank. He especially cherished Februaries spent in Florida with Maria, biking around Siesta Key, talking with the locals, and relaxing on the beach. Above all, he found his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren, who knew him as a constant and loving presence. A man of quiet dedication, he believed in showing up for others through volunteering, small acts of service, and steady care for his community. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he loved deeply. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100).
