PFEIFER
DAVID "DAVE" WILLIAM
David "Dave" William Pfeifer went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, at his home, on Thursday, April 17, at the age of 85. Dave was born on February 22, 1940, in Pittsburgh, PA to William R. and Imelda M. (Britenbaugh) Pfeifer of Ross Township, Pittsburgh.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Erin Schoen; and brother, Mark Pfeifer. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Nancy (Jones) Pfeifer; his daughter, Gina Mackin and her husband, Michael of New Castle. Dave is lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren Brian Wilson of Pittsburgh, Dimitri Martiny, Leland Mackin and Erin Mackin. He is also survived by his brother, James G.Pfeifer of Fresno, California; and sister, Ellen Piper of Pittsburgh; as well as his nephews, James Pfeifer Jr. of Palm Springs, California and Jeffrey Pfeifer of Clovis, California.
Dave met his beautiful wife, Nancy, at Eat 'n Park on Route 19, in Wexford in 1964. After their first date, he shared with his parents that she was the woman he would marry. They were married at St. Theresa's church in Perrysville on July 22nd, 1967. In 1972, they built their family home in Economy, PA. Their first child, Gina, arrived in December 1973. He challenged his oldest (with anything that he could think of) which empowered her to be a strong, independent and skilled person. He taught her all the parts of an engine at age 14, to cast a fly rod perfectly by age 16 and to hit a line drive straight up the middle of the field. Dave was never prouder than when she opened up her own private practice as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. His youngest, Erin, arrived in September of 1976. Erin came into this world as a tiny spunky baby, who always surprised her dad. Dave watched his youngest grow into her personality as she achieved the rank of Staff Sargent in the Airforce. Erin's life goal was to be physically fit, competing in bodybuilding competitions as well as helping others to achieve their fitness goals.
Dave was selective with his friendships. His earliest friend was Fred Scharf, who had many adventures as a child and teen. Dave graduated from North Catholic Highschool class of 1958. He enrolled in Duquesne University with a major in Chemistry. After a few years, he decided to enlist in the Army from 1961 to 1963 as a Clerical Administrative Specialist, achieving the rank of Specialist E-4. He was stationed in Fort Eustes, Virginia and then Korea. Following his service in the Army, he obtained a job as a foreman at Heppenstalls in Lawrenceville. He then was hired at Vulcan Materials as a chemist, where he met his best friend and life-long fishing buddy, Robert Grundy Jones of Allison Park. Later Dave worked as supervisor for AMG Resources on Neville Island. He later was hired by his other best friend and fishing buddy, Samuel E. McCadney of Economy, PA, as an Auditor for state workman's comp. insurance. Dave was an avid fisherman and his camp in Kelletteville, PA was where he was happiest, especially when reeling in a smallmouth bass in the Tionesta Creek. Dave loved reading; he would read two to three books at one time. He also loved his grandchildren and was found frequently attending their band concerts, ballet recitals, art shows, soccer games and Jujitsu classes. Dave was a quiet man but was known for his sarcastic quotes. His favorites were "Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt," and "A bad day fishing is better than the best day working."
In lieu of flowers, Dave's family would like to have donations sent to the following charities: "Tunnel for Towers," National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the "Beaver County Humane Society." The family will be hosting an Open House to celebrate Dave soon. The date and time will be communicated at that time.
