JULIAN I

DEAN MATTHEW

With immeasurable sadness we announce the passing of Dean Matthew Julian I, of Gibsonia, originally from Clairton, on December 3, 2025, at age 72. Left to mourn his passing is Lisa Goetz, his wife of 32 years and his best friend of 42 years. He is survived by his son, Dean Matthew Julian II; his wife, Michele; and grandson, Dean Matthew III; and his son, David Julian; his wife, Brandi; and grandsons, Dylon and Zachariah.

Dean was the son of the late James and Phyllis (Criswell) Julian; and brother to his twin Dan (Mary), James (Claudia), Terry (Denise), the late Jeff Julian and Stephanie Julian Veres. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John "Bo" Veres; and niece, Penni Veres Janetka. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family.

Dean was a proud graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his B.S. in Psychology, M.S. in Psychology in Education, and Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration. He held several rewarding university positions at institutions, including Pitt, Immaculata University, and even Penn State. (Yes, it pained him to pretend to root for PSU sports teams.) Throughout his career, Dean always worked to break down barriers that individuals faced in trying to achieve a college degree.

More recently, Dean found joy in singing bass with the Saint Richard Church choir. He cherished participating in the music ministry with his choir friends.

He also greatly benefited from his participation in the Rock Steady boxing program designed to enhance the wellbeing of people living with Parkinson's Disease. He treasured his time with fellow fighters and the trainers at Fit 4 Boxing.

Dean always tried to uplift people, so to honor his memory, please perform an act of kindness with him in mind.

Friends will be received on Friday, December 5, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, PA 15007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Saint Richard Church, 3841 Dickey Rd., Gibsonia, PA 15044, Sts. Martha and Mary Parish, on Saturday, December 6, at 9:30 a.m. A Celebration of Dean's Life will be announced, at a later date.
