Dennis R. Smith, age 72, of Kennedy Township, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, September 5, 2025. Beloved husband of 49 years to the late Mary Morgan Smith. Loving father of Carolyn (Ben Mays) Smith and Janice Smith; brother of Debra (Anthony) Tour, Donald Smith, and Donna (Donald) Delauder.

Dennis was a librarian at the University of Pittsburgh for over 30 years before retiring in 2017. Prior, he worked as a librarian at the Memphis/Shelby County Public Library in Tennessee.

In addition to a love of books, Dennis enjoyed a few other passions. By train, car, and plane, he traveled the country many times over, often in search of a National Park or his next favorite roller coaster. His most enduring hobby was music. In high school, he and his friends brought a portable radio to school and at lunchtime would switch radio stations trying to find "The Sound of Silence." From then on, he assembled and cataloged an extraordinary music collection, and it remained a lifelong source of joy.

Celebration of Dennis's Life will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 1 - 3 PM at McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, 334 Forest Grove Road, Coraopolis (Kennedy Township), PA 15108.
