DONALD EDGELL
Died at the age of 85, at Friendship Village of the South Hills. He is survived by his life-long companion and wife, Lois Beckel Guinn; son, Mark Andrew (Grace); grandson, Ryan of Mamaroneck, NY; grandson, Hunter of Boston, MA; nephew, Chris Beckel; and niece, Cheryl Wallace. Don was predeceased by his son, Douglass. Don was born in Newark, OH and grew up in Columbus, OH. He graduated from OSU with a BA in political science and Juris Doctor in Law. After graduation, Don and Lois moved to Pittsburgh, where Don joined the legal department of the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA.) He retired from ALCOA as Assistant General Counsel with legal responsibility for ALCOA's international business and worldwide acquisitions and joint ventures. Following his retirement from ALCOA, Don worked for seven years as Executive Director of South Hills Interfaith Ministry. Under his leadership, SHIM became extensively involved in refugee resettlement and support. Don balanced a very demanding work schedule with family travel and volunteer activities with his boys. He was an Indian Guide, Assistant scoutmaster of Troop 215, and active in Bethel Band Boosters. He was an Elder at John McMillan Presbyterian Church, where he and Lois belonged from 1968. He was also on the Pittsburgh Presbytery Mission Ministry Team, chaired the Hunger Committee, and served on other Presbytery committees. He was on the Board of Directors and Chair of the finance committee of Family Hospice. His hobbies were travel and history, stamp collecting, cooking and golfing. He was a long-time member of St. Clair Country Club and the Duquesne Club. He and Lois traveled to many countries, including most European countries, China, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Greece and Israel. He loved maps and in every new town in the U.S., the first stop was the Chamber of Commerce to collect information and maps. He was a very informed tour guide for the family. A Celebration of Don's life will be held at Friendship Village, 1290 Boyce Rd., USC 15241, at 11 A.M., on Monday, June 9.
