DORIS JEAN (LAZZARI)

Doris Jean (Lazzari) Barruso passed peacefully, on February 23, 2026, with her family by her side. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, godmother, trusted colleague and treasured friend to many.

Born in Belle Vernon, PA, to Dorothy (Treater) and Armando Lazzari, on March 23, 1934. Doris loved to play cards, dance at the local fire hall/Italian clubs and sold popcorn at the movie theater. She was a very hard worker cleaning many relatives' homes and even hotel rooms in Conneat Lake, PA, during summer breaks, where she also worked at a family friend's restaurant.

Doris married her high school sweetheart, Tom Barruso, on May 12, 1956, and they made their family home in Pleasant Hills. She worked for People's Gas, The Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and Mellon Bank before taking on her most important role as a mother to her two daughters. As her daughters grew up, Doris took on positions as a Pleasant Hills Borough school crossing guard, a teller for Union National Bank (aka Integra Bank) in Bill Green's shopping Plaza, and finally an executive administrative assistant for Integra's (aka National City Bank) Trust Real Estate Department in downtown Pittsburgh.

Doris was an amazing cook and baker, and enjoyed preparing feasts for holiday gatherings, special occasions and to watch Pittsburgh Steeler games with family and friends. She was a long time member of the Triumph of the Holy Cross (St. Elizabeth) parish.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Tom; her brother, Herman Lazzari; sisters-in-law, Driscilla (Baron) Lazzari and Brigitte (Polinski) Lazzari; brother-in-law, Charles Smith; and nephew, David E. Lazzari Jr. Doris is survived by her daughters, Darlene Kruth (Frank) and Cheryl Barruso (Dan Sarver, fiance); her grandson, Xander Cavanagh (fiance Liana Monaco). She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Lazzari Smith; brother, David Lazzari, brother-in-law, Anthony Borruso; sister-in-law, Linda Borruso; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

We would like to express our deepest heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all of our parents' caregivers and helpers over the past several years; their special nieces, Laurie Jo Lazzari Charnack and Stacey Blain; and their neighbors, Donna Beck and Paul Beck.

Friends and family will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Friday, February 27, 2026, at JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills, PA 15236.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 28, at Triumph Of Holy Cross Parish, St. Elizabeth of Hugary worship site, 1 Grove Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15236, with Burial to follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
