DORIS (STRITZINGER)


Of Oakmont, passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born May 7, 1932, in Pittsburgh to Hilda (Theis) and Frank Stritzinger. Doris was predeceased by her parents; her former spouse, Ferguson Webster; and her sister and best friend, Rita Stritzinger Dean. Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Bruce D. Evans; two children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; daughters, Dr. Joan Webster (Oberlin, OH) and Gail Webster Kusbit (Pittsburgh); grandchildren, Ashley Wells Hughes, Matthew Kusbit (Lydia), Daniel Kusbit (Danyel), Edward Miller, Andrew Miller (Katie Rumora) and David Sabin-Miller (Dyani Sabin); great-grandchildren, Ellie, Archie, Chance, Chauncey, Sophie and Levi. Also stepmother of Scott (Liz), Randy (Jenny Dilworth) and Leigh Evans; stepgrandmother of Sarah Evans Pate (Jordan), Vanya, Sergei, Anna (Hamad Alanazi), Olya, Sasha, Miranda (Ronald) and Natalya Evans; and step-great-grandmother of Shelby, Jack, Charlotte and Khalid.



Doris earned her master's degree in education summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1971. She was a pioneer itinerant teacher for two years in the early years of the Head Start pre-school program in Pittsburgh. She was the devoted head kindergarten teacher at The Ellis School for 17 years. Doris was a life-long lover of classical music, having begun piano studies at the age of five; she was a fine pianist as well as piano teacher, and for many years she and Bruce held season tickets to the Pittsburgh Symphony and Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society. She was a member of the Tuesday Musical Club, occasionally performing in their club recitals. As an avid gardener, Doris was a member of the Linden Garden Club and kept a beautiful garden at home. She was a very talented painter and an excellent cook. She enthusiastically enjoyed and supported the exploits of her family members, especially those of her grand and step-grandchildren and her great and step-great-grandchildren. After enjoying living in their Shadyside home for 40 years, Doris and Bruce moved to the Longwood at Oakmont Senior Living Community in 2023.



In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, www.wcspittsburgh.org, or Doctors Without Borders, www.doctorswithoutborders.org. Private Burial in Penn Forest Natural Burial Park, Verona. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Arrangements by NATURAL FUNERAL COMPANY.
