DOROTHY ANN "DOLLY"

Age 92, of Chartiers Bend Retirement Resort in Bridgeville, PA, passed away on June 12, 2026.

Born on March 5, 1934, in McConnellsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Hazel Fix Tritle. A longtime resident of Lancaster Pennsylvania, Dolly worked for many years as an office manager for an audiology practice and was Lutheran by faith.

Though small in stature, Dolly had an enormous heart and a personality that filled every room. A gifted conversationalist, she was known for her kindness, acceptance, humor, and boisterous laugh. She loved music and the arts, especially classical music, opera, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. A talented pianist and singer, she performed in Lutheran church choirs throughout her life.

Dolly was also a wonderful cook, remembered for her Thanksgiving stuffing and Hungarian goulash. At Chartiers Bend, she became affectionately known as the "Cookie Queen." She enjoyed life's simple pleasures, including a dirty vodka martini, good books, beloved pets, and cheering passionately for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Above all, Dolly cherished her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 61 years, Charles R. Mertz; her brother, William Tritle; and her sister, Aileen Culler.

She is survived by her sons, Charles W. (Cheryl Scalzi) Mertz of Limerick, PA and Dave M. (Barbara) Mertz of Kennett Square, PA; her daughter, Susan A. (Dr. Nicholas) Loutsion of Canonsburg; her sister, Sally Mellott of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Alexandra Loutsion, Alyssa (Niko) Kyritsis, and Georgiana L. Coe (John E., Jr.); great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Gregory Kyritsis, Alexander T. and Ava R. Coe and Gavin Wenrich.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
