DR. RONALD LEE

Dr. Ronald Lee Zimmerman was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passing away peacefully at his home in Allison Park, on June 16, 2025. Ronald was born in Lewistown, PA, on July 31, 1936, son of the late Pearl and Lee Zimmerman; beloved husband of Patricia Mores Zimmerman; loving father of Dr. Greg Zimmerman, Kurt (Natalia) Zimmerman, Ron Zimmerman, and Lynn (Adam) Deutschbauer; dear brother of Gail, Marian, and late Hanna; attentive grandfather to Emma and Andrei Zimmerman, and Luke, Grant, and Alex Deutschbauer. After marriage to Pat in 1961, Dr. Zimmerman served as General Medical Officer at Shaw Air Force Base, SC, from 1963 through 1965. He later became the First Director of the Residency Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at St. Francis in Pittsburgh, continuing in this capacity for 28 years. He was a guest examiner in PM&R; he held staff appointments at St. Francis, Butler, Mercy, St. Margaret, McKeesport, Providence, and other hospitals. Ronald was often called up for pro-bono medical advice. He served in medicine over 45 years. As a youth, Ronald worked as paperboy, movie usher, caddy, and attained the rank of Eagle Scout, completing the Order of the Arrow. In high school, he was involved in football, wrestling, and track, including a track scholarship to Pitt. He often served as team doctor. Ronald was a sportsman and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, which he shared with his brother-in-law, John Mores, who became the brother he never had. "Dr. Z" found time to write poetry and an alphabet story book, entitled ABC Power Word Fables, now enjoying sales of ABC Man. Ever the optimist, he planted apple, pear, and peach trees, and erected a grape arbor in his backyard for the next generation. An ardent sports fan, he discussed football at length with his sons and also gave a favorable opinion on his third son's music. He researched viruses since December 2019, and concluded on February 2, 2020: that's one patient and the beginning of a pandemic. Verifiable. Sadly, he was right. He looked to the good and said science would prevail. Locally, he became known for growing 300-pound giant pumpkins, some of which won third place in an associated contest. He and his wife shared an interest in computers, investing, travel, music, politics, and history. Ronald greatly enjoyed his life as patriarch of his family. His was a life well-lived.
