On Thursday, February 19, 2026, Edna Mae Gerner died peacefully at the age of 94. Daughter of the late Roy A. and Carrie Witte Gerner. Sister of the late Fred Gerner, Henry Gerner, Walter Gerner, Dr. Alvin "Buzz" Gerner, and Marilyn J. Fugh. She is also survived by her beloved Beagle, Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Edna Mae was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing and obtained her master's degree from the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She worked for the Allegheny County Health Department as the District Health Officer and Nurse Administrator, retiring in 1992. She served as a captain in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Edna Mae had a love for beagles, giving numerous dogs a good home over the years. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS INC. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com), 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street, on Thursday, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with a graveside committal service following in Green Lawn Cemetery (Mt. Chestnut, PA), officiated by Reverend John A. Fugh, Jr. Remembrance may be made to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, 6926 Hamilton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15208.
