EDWARD J.

Edward J Hamer "Eddie Joe," age 72, passed peacefully after a brief battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by family and friends. Born to the late Edward F. Hamer and the late Marjorie (Donovan) Hamer; he was husband to the late Pamela (Ramsey) Hamer; and father to Todd (Erica) Hamer and Nikol (Dan) Flanagan. He was a brother to the late Mickey (Jill) Hamer, Ginny Kropf (Dan), Margie (Gil) Ruffing, and Max (Ann) Hamer; and a brother-in-law to the late John (Laura) Ramsey. He was grandfather to Tenzing, Dan (Bree), and the late Lauren; and great-grandfather to Juliette, Daniel, Abbigail, and Ezra. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who all loved him deeply.

Ed grew up in Sheraden and graduated from Langley High School (1972). He loved football and was a Crafton Little Cougars football coach for many years. He was an avid Pitt fan, attaining his bachelor's degree from there later in life while juggling family life and full-time work. Ed was a union painter for a time before relocating to Durham, NC, where he worked for Durham Academy as the director of facilities. He later worked at The Madeira School in McLean, VA, also as the director of facilities, and taught classes at George Mason University before retiring in Sewickley, PA.

Ed loved Ford Mustangs, and his prized possession was a maroon Ford Mustang that he kept meticulously clean in his garage and loved to take out for a spin. He loved bike riding and rode from Pittsburgh to DC several times. He loved taking long walks on the beach near his condo in Myrtle Beach, SC, and he couldn't get enough of his wife's pumpkin cheesecake.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at WILLIAM F. CONROY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2944 Chartiers Ave., Sheraden, on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday.
