FRANCES

Frances Poznak Aloe passed away at age 103, on July 26, 2026. Born September 25, 1922, in Gorecko Stare, Poland, she was preceded in death by her husband, William; father, Andrew; mother, Katherine Sikorska; sisters and brothers, Josephine (Lonchiek), Clara (Maga), Victor, Carl, and Ted; grandson, Matthew Aloe; and son-in-law, the Honorable David R. Cashman.

Her father and mother were born in Poland and came to this country at the turn of the century. Her mother came to avoid an arranged marriage, and he did for a brighter future. They met at a boarding house in Philadelphia and were married in that city. An opportunity in mining and farming brought them to western Pennsylvania. Frances disliked working on a farm and often remarked that her children could never survive that life. She often told the story of being kicked by a cow she was milking, picking up a pitchfork to stab the animal, and, in the backswing, hitting her father in the head. She heard him swear "dogs' blood and cholera" in his native language. But she had fond memories of Sunday afternoons when the neighbors visited their farm. Papa cut their hair, they drank homemade beer and would listen to her dad play the violin and sing. Sometimes the songs had bawdy lyrics, and her mother always chided him with a smile.

She grew up in Imperial, PA, and went to Findlay High School. She met her future husband, Bill Aloe, at a sandwich shop where she worked. He was in the mining business in the area, and they were married on May 1, 1946, taking their honeymoon by train to Palm Springs, CA. She started her family in Staton Heights on Hawthorne Street. Her husband's brothers and sister lived on the street too. His mother and other sister lived nearby. They moved to Charter Oak Drive, Carnegie, in 1959.

She enjoyed playing bridge and gin rummy with family and friends. And a good April Fools' prank always caught some sleepy child. She taught her children to be alert and challenged them to spot her cheating. There was the "secret move," many life lessons from her "busy lots to do" farm days, and sayings like "readers are leaders and leaders are readers," "you are judged by the company you keep," and "don't take any wooden nickels," plus many more.

She is survived and missed by her six children, Mark, David (Andrea), Kathryn (the late Honorable David R. Cashman), Andrew (Michelle), Daniel (Deborah); and Joseph (Christine). Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are private.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Providence Pointe at a date to be determined.
