LAING

FRED

Age 86, of South Fayette Township, passed away peacefully on the evening of Friday, November 14, 2025.

Alfred Alexander Laing - always Fred to friends and strangers alike - was born December 2, 1938, in Cecil, PA to John C. and Ora E. (Morris) Laing.

After graduating from Cecil High School in 1956, Fred served in the PA National Guard and spent most of his working life at the Koppers Company's Bridgeville Plant.

For many years, Fred and his family made their home on Fawcett Church Road, where he enjoyed life as the consummate "dad," working on cars, fishing on the weekends, amusing guests at the holidays and sharing stories over a Pepsi on the front steps. Recently, he has been cared for by the staff of Concordia of Bridgeville. He faced declining health with the same sense of humor that he'd always shown.

Fred is survived by his son, Scott R. (Harvey) Laing of Seattle; a brother-in-law, Jeff Panos of Mt. Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death this past May by his beloved wife of 59 years, Janet; son, Mark C. Laing; his sister, Ruth E. (Joe) Gutc; and his brother, John K. (Dora) Laing.

Arrangements are entrusted to BEINHAUER-FRYER FUNERAL HOME. Details for a memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Fred's memory may be made to Concordia Lutheran Ministries or the Parkinson's Foundation.
