On Monday, June 29, 2026, Gary Lee Sechler, 74, of McCandless Township, a native of High Point, North Carolina, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family.

Gary was unexpectedly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2014. This diagnosis came as a complete shock to family and friends, as Gary did not have any clear risk factors. Doctors explained that Gary was in that small percentage of where "we have no reason."

Gary was the beloved husband of Beverly, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Ashley Sechler and Lauren Sechler; a loving brother to Mark (Jane) Sechler; a treasured uncle to Susanna and Benjamin; and a loyal friend to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton Sloop Sechler and Nell Wensil Sechler; and his niece, Joy.

Gary graduated from North Carolina State University in 1973 with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering. He began his career with Liggett & Myers in Durham, NC, before serving as engineering manager with Winthrop Management for the U.S. Steel Building in Pittsburgh.

A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held at Ingomar United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Visitation is from 12-2 p.m. and a memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oral Cancer Foundation (oral and oropharyngeal cancer information), Shenot Farm Market, or Eichner's Farm Market in Gary's memory.
