GEORGE A.

On Thursday, June 4, 2026. Son of the late Ida and Alex Bado; beloved husband of Kathleen (Donnelly) Bado; loving father of Greg (Amy) Bado, Geoff (Lori) Bado and the late Doug (Lynn) Bado; proud grandfather of Chris (Samantha) Hyde, Molly (Ben) Graves, Declan Bado, Haley (Brandon) Bartley and Hannah Bado; great-grandfather of Lily and Harriet; brother-in-law of Denny and Maureen Donnelly, Bernie and Linda Donnelly, Maureen A. Donnelly, Tim and Marion Donnelly, Patrick Donnelly and the late Arlene and Paul Conley; also survived by generations of nieces and nephews.

A lifelong resident of Heidelberg, George traded a bus for a motorhome after retiring. Together George, Kathy and their dog, Holly, traveled as far north as Alaska and visited every state in the continental United States but one. They used any excuse to get back on the road, from watching a grandchild's football game to visiting family in Florida.

When George and Kathy weren't traveling, he was a driver for the Allegheny County Bookmobile for 15 years, a job he truly loved. He also loved to work on his train set, watch Westerns and golf- a passion he kept alive well into his 80s.

An only child, George embraced the large family he married into and was particularly fond of his "adopted" Irish heritage. He took particular pride in his "Irish By Marriage" status and was quite active in the Ancient Order of Hibernians- he was formally named an Honorary Member of the AOH in 2003.

George was a proud and intense supporter of the Pittsburgh Steelers, had season tickets for three decades and rarely missed a home game. George and his sons helped cheer them to victory in person at Super Bowl XL.

George was rarely seen without a camera around his neck, especially photos of his family- the memories he documented have become priceless to the family.

Ultimately it was George's dedication to his wife, family and friends that is his lasting legacy. From helping Irish students move to driving his goddaughter to school, George always answered the call- whether that meant repairing a stranger's awning while driving through the Dakotas or making hundreds of scones for charity.

George spent his latter days in Heidelberg with Kathy, happily watching the world from his front porch.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME INC., where family and friends will be received on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at 101 Third St., Carnegie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
