PAZIN, MD
GEORGE J.
Age 87, of McCandless, passed Friday, February 20, at home, with his family by his side, after struggling with many health challenges.
George is survived by Elaine (Foltin) Pazin, his beloved wife of 62 years; their four devoted children, Anne (Greg) Ribar, George (Bonnie) Pazin, John (Carol) Pazin and Elizabeth (Orr) Goehring; their six adoring grandchildren, Kyra Ribar, Jason Pazin, Joshua and Jake Pazin, and Emily and Michael Goehring; as well as many nieces, nephews, Godchildren and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Anna (Sroka) Pazin; brother, Eugene; and sister, Dorothy (Charles)Koban.
An appendectomy at a young age piqued George's interest in medicine and earned him the childhood nickname "Doc," a name that followed him throughout his life.
George graduated first in his medical school class from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he later taught as an Associate Professor of Medicine for 22 years. His legacy lives on through his medical students, whom he taught with an encyclopedic knowledge matched only by his boundless curiosity and passion for learning. He enjoyed another phase later in his medical career by caring for the veterans at the VA Hospital on Highland Drive for 11 years. He is remembered with gratitude by his patients, whom he cared for in the hospital, at the VA and in their homes.
Those close to George will remember him as a dedicated family man, a compassionate physician and a faithful Orthodox Christian, with an infectious smile that exemplified his positive outlook on life. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation is at DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15229, on Wednesday, February 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, February 26, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a Panikhida at 6 p.m. The funeral service is at St. Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Cathedral, 8290 Thompson Run Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, on Friday, February 27, at 11 a.m.
