GEORGE STEWARD

George Steward Morris passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 85, at Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair, PA.

George was born in Dayton, OH, and was the son of the late Kenneth and Olive Morris; and younger brother of the late Kenneth Morris. He was a proud graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he was a ROTC cadet and a standout athlete on the baseball field. He was inducted into the OWU Hall of Fame and named a Helms Foundation All-American. After graduation, he turned down an offer to join the Detroit Tigers minor league system to fulfill his ROTC commitment. He was honored to serve his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force.

After completing his service, he joined Norton Company in Worcester, MA, and in 1973, his work brought him to Pittsburgh and the Upper St. Clair community. There, he and his wife, Diane, raised their four children, Karen Morris (Wayne Gasior), Kristin Haak (Tim), Peter Morris (Carolynn Morizzo), and Jeffrey Morris (Francine).

George was deeply involved in his community, serving the Upper St. Clair Athletic Association as Director of Baseball and Softball, and on both the USC Parks and Recreation Board and the USC Republican Committee. He is remembered for his colorful play-by-play broadcasts during the '80s of all home football games and boys' soccer games on local channel 7. He especially loved coaching his children's teams and sharing with them his lifelong love of baseball, including how to keep score and calculate all relevant and irrelevant stats. George was also an avid tennis and paddle tennis player and enjoyed competition and camaraderie on and off the court.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Diane Williams Morris; his four children; and 11 grandchildren, Allison Klena (Bill), Mallory Lopez Haak (Esteban), Kevin Muck, Erika Haak, Meredith LiCalzi (Dennis), Vanessa Haak, Gavin Morris, Caroline Morris, Elizabeth Morris, Kenny Morris, and Griffin Morris. This year, George was delighted to become a great-grandfather to Liesel Klena.

George's greatest joy was traveling around the globe with Diane and spending time with his family during holidays and the annual family vacations to York, ME. George's first summer in Maine was committed to courting Diane after meeting her on a blind date at Ohio Wesleyan. George and Diane were inseparable, partnering in bridge, tennis, paddle and travel. He was devoted to his family throughout his life.

A memorial service will be held on December 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., at Friendship Village, 1290 Boyce Road, Upper St. Clair, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morizzo Foundation, founded by his son, Peter, and wife, Carolynn. It is a non-profit organization raising awareness of glioblastoma, funding research, and providing support to families to ensure equitable access to treatments.
