Age 82, a proud Vietnam Marine veteran, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, surrounded by family, after a long battle with illness. Born on August 5, 1943, in Pittsburgh, PA. He was a dedicated patriot who answered the call of duty, enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served with honor in Vietnam for one year, two months, and five days. Total acts of service for three years, eleven months, and six days. Mentioning unit: FBtry, 2dBn 12Mar, 3dMarDiv Rein. Honorable. He won a good conduct medal on September 8, 1964. He also won the M-14 Rifle Marksman Badge and A.F. Expeditionary Medal. He was a Purple Heart recipient. As a result of his combat service and subsequent health challenges, he was honored to be recognized as a 100% disabled American veteran.



Glenn was a man of immense strength and pride, refusing to let his physical limitations overshadow his love for life, his family, and his brothers-in-arms. He was an active member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked in building and construction and real estate.



Through his life he enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, boating, vacationing, and spending time with friends and family.



He is survived by his beloved wife of over 20 years, Anna Marie Hofer; his children, Mark Hofer (Melissa), Christine DeZort, Howard Hofer (Tiffany), Tanya Thomas, Tracy Brown (Jim), Renee Byrnes (Tom), and Danielle Kee; and his eighteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Also a wide circle of friends and fellow veterans. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hofer; mother, Ruth Hofer; his daughter, Tracy McDonald; and sons-in-law Rick DeSort and Brian Kee.



A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at SLATER FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, INC. SHARPSBURG. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 11 a.m., in the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will be at Mount Royal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America, Wounded Warrior Project, or local hospice.
