GLORIA
Gloria Snyder, died on November 26, 2025. She was a resident of Concordia of the South Hills, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Gloria was born on April 27, 1928 and grew up in Elmhurst, a neighborhood in the Borough of Queens in New York City. She was a daughter of Hazel and Joseph Walker, their first daughter having been Virginia (Emerson Callahan). Gloria was a graduate of Queens College, New York and earned a Masters Degree in reading at the University of Pittsburgh. She taught young children for 23 years after having enjoyed 13 years as a stay-at-home mom. Gloria and her first husband, Charles Peterson (deceased December 8, 2019) had three children: Robert Peterson, Evelyn Puerto (Tony) and Vivian Aro; and one grandchild, Emily Aro. Divorced after 20 years of marriage Gloria met and married Ralph Snyder enjoying years of travel, grandparenting, tennis and bridge before Ralph's untimely death on December 29, 2002.
Gloria was predeceased by her son Robert, who at 59 years of age died of a congenital heart problem. He had enjoyed a satisfying career as a computer pro and many years of recreational travel. She is also predeceased by her sister, Virginia, who after a full life died on May 29, 2020, just a month short of age 97. Gloria is particularly proud of her part in founding of the Universalist Church of the South Hills and in its continued progress over the years. Gloria's ashes are to be distributed in the Memorial Garden of the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee or a charity of choice.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1249 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228 on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
