On May 19, 2026, Helen passed away peacefully after a short illness. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the late Michael Romzy; adoring parents, the late Michael and Julia Ference; and siblings, the late Michael "Buddy" (the late Mary Ellen) Ference, Florence (the late Michael) Jacobs, and Lois Ference. She is survived by her devoted son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Patricia Romzy; sister, Janet (Michael) Gipp; and sister-in-law, Barbara (the late Tom) Karolcik. She was a loving aunt to Michelle (Michael) Martin, Steve (Kelly) Ference, Michael (Kathleen) Ference, and the late Kenneth Ference, Martha (Bob) Merda, Carol Gastrock, Anna (Tom) Kovalcik, John (Amanda) Karolcik, and the late Tom (Carrie) Karolcik; and great-aunt to their children. Helen also had many friends and neighbors that she enjoyed spending time with, especially the late Leonard Stagon and his family. Helen was an Honorary Grandmother to Brett and Amanda Foley and Carolyn and Buddy Doyle; and Honorary Great-Grandmother to their children, Evelyn Foley, and Ernest, Rose, and George Doyle. She enjoyed spending time with them, and when asking about the children she always referred to them as her little "angels." She loved them dearly. Helen was a graduate of Duquesne High School, and the University of Pittsburgh where she attended on a full scholarship. She received her Master of Education from Duquesne University. Her professional career spanned forty-plus years teaching and she later became the Guidance Counselor at Duquesne High School. After retiring from Duquesne High School, Helen began a second career working at the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County in many different capacities. Through the years, Helen was a Member of the Duquesne Education Association, President of the Brierly Heights Women's Club and served as a Member of the West Mifflin School Board. She also volunteered at the St. Elias Byzatine Catholic Church for many years. She remained an avid reader throughout her life and always thought it was never too late to learn something new.
