HELEN MARIE (MADINE)


Helen Marie (Madine) Cavanaugh, 91, of West Deer Township, died Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Newhaven Court at Clearview, where she had been a patient for only a few days with family by her side. She was born May 4, 1925, in Pittsburgh to the late Canice J. and Marie F. (Boyle) Madine. Helen was a 1951 graduate of St. George's High School, Pittsburgh. Helen worked for the former Pittsburgh Press as the Executive Secretary for the head of the Labor Relations Director. Helen has lived in West Deer for the past 25 years, prior to that he lived in Shaler. She was a member of St. Mary Margaret Parish, attending St. Catherine's Church in Hampton. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially making lady locks, and loved spending time with her family.



Survivors include her children, James T. (Susan) Cavanaugh of Butler, Catherine A. Shine of New Derry, Amy P. (Anthony) Wall of Hampton and Eileen M. (Vincent) Marchese of Delaware, OH; nine grandchildren, Dana (Ryan) Kozesky and Jaci (Josh) Bergdahl both of Middlesex, Kimberly (John) McCluskey of West Deer, Andrew (Jennifer) Marchese of Oswego, IL, Erin (Doug) Gibbon of Delaware, OH, Stacy Marchese of Delaware, OH, Michael (Trea) O'Malley of Ridgefield, CT, Jason (Kate) O'Malley of Larkspur, CA and Timothy (Tayler) O'Malley of Steamboat Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Kelley, Samantha, Ethan, Noah, Wyatt, Sadie, Katie, Jacob, Dean, Ellia, Alexandra, Eliza, Jack, Sean, Grace and Clare; and her niece, Lona Madine of West Alexander, PA.



Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Cavanaugh, August 28, 2025; her brother, James F. Madine; and her nephew, James Madine.



Family and friends are invited to a Catholic Mass on Friday, at 11 am, in St. Martha and Mary Parish, St. Catherine of Sweden, 2554 Wildwood Rd., Allison Park, PA 15101, with the Rev. Daniel Waruszewdki, officiating. Following Mass, she will be privately laid to rest next to her husband in Holy Savior Cemetery, Richland.
