HELENE TOUSIMIS
Age 94, of Murrysville, PA, passed away on March 3, 2026. Helene was born on August 17, 1931, in Agra, outside of Edessa, Greece, to the late John and Maria (Tsonis) Tousimis. She survived many hardships during WWII in occupied northern Greece before coming to America in 1946. She was the loving wife of the late D. John Powers for over 66 years. They were long-time residents of Churchill, PA, before moving to Murrysville. She was a loving mother to their three children: John D. (wife, Mary) Powers of Solon, OH; Dr. Danae (Dr. Dale Lancaster) Powers of State College, PA; and the late Dr. Alexandros (wife, Peri) Powers of Potomac, MD. She was the cherished grandmother to Alaina (Greg) Peterca, John (Nelle) Powers, Dr. Kristin (Dr. Ryan) Powers, Kreesa Lancaster, Alex Lancaster, Alexa Powers, and Nick Powers. Also the great-grandmother to Zachary and Theodore Peterca, Eleni and Nikolaos Sanderson, and John Powers. Helene was the sister of the late Dr. Anastasios (Calliope, deceased) Tousimis and Alice (Dean) Paul. She was also a loving aunt, great-aunt, and cousin to many. Helene was also an accomplished businesswoman. She was one of the first female executives in the insurance industry and used her acumen to help her late husband gain the education and knowledge to become an insurance industry executive himself. Helene and her husband founded Republic Insurance Associates and Phoenix Credit Corporation, an insurance premium finance company. She and her husband also founded the Great Beginnings Day Care center, which for many years cared for up to 85 children each day. Helene's last, and most favorite, venture was as owner and president of the Travel Corporation of America for over 25 years, during which she traveled extensively. She was also known to be an excellent cook and a wonderful hostess. All services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 419 S. Dithridge Street (Oakland), Pittsburgh, PA 15213, where visitation will be held from 10 AM, until a funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Homewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the memory of Helene Powers. Arrangements by JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC.
