IGNACY MANKO Obituary

Pittsburgh - Ignacy Manko, age 94, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, surrounded by his devoted and loving family. Born on December 22, 1930, in Polana, Poland, Ignacy lived a life rooted in resilience, hard work, and deep love for his family.


At 18, he was drafted into military service, and following his discharge, he pursued a meaningful life as an accomplished farmer. In 1974, he immigrated to the United States, and he was reunited with his family shortly thereafter, settling together in a home in Pittsburgh, PA. He worked with pride and dedication at Silver Star Meats for 23 years, before retiring in 1997.


Ignacy is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Josephine Manko, who he built a strong and loving family with. He was a caring father of Wesley Manko and wife Barbara, Zenon Manko and wife Terry, and Alice Hogan and husband Keith; grandfather of Kasey Kovacs and husband Nicholas with child Andrew, Keith Hogan and wife Nichole with child Charlotte, Kylie Ritenour and husband Alex, Karissa Hall and husband David, Christopher Manko, and Michael Manko.


He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters, and he will be remembered for his unwavering strength, selflessness, commitment to excellence, and the deep love he had for his family. He set a powerful example for those around him, and his journey across life is a testament to courage, sacrifice, and enduring hope.


Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the JOHN J. GMITER FUNERAL HOME, 119 S 15th St., Pittsburgh, PA 15203. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. at ST. ADALBERT CHURCH, 160 S. 15th St., Pittsburgh, PA 15203 with interment to follow.
