IRENE (SOLTIS) POWELL Obituary
POWELL
IRENE (SOLTIS)
At the remarkable age of 96, Irene (Soltis) Powell, of Upper St. Clair, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of treasured memories and a legacy built on faith, family, laughter, and unwavering love.
Born to John and Ilona Soltis, Irene grew up surrounded by a loving family and would eventually meet the love of her life, Donald Powell, her high school sweetheart. Their love story blossomed into a marriage that spanned more than 75 years—a rare and beautiful testament to lifelong devotion, commitment, and enduring friendship.
Above all else, Irene cherished her family. She is lovingly survived by her children, Donald A. (Jamette) Powell, Carolyn A. (the late Joseph) Toth, and David (Laryl) Powell. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Steffany (Craig) Kunkle, Donald E. (Carrie) Powell, Derek Powell, and Lindsay Toth, and found immense joy in her great-grandson, Connor Kunkle. She also leaves behind many beloved extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Powell; her parents, John and Ilona Soltis; and her many dear siblings.
Irene had a creative spirit and a gift for making everything around her more beautiful. Her exquisite needlepoint reflected the patience, care, and artistry that she poured into everything she did. She was also a wonderful cook, although her greatest passion wasn't found in the kitchen—it was in creating memorable moments with the people she loved. Irene had a gift for entertaining, and her home was often filled with family, friends, conversation, and laughter. Sociable, charming, and blessed with the gift of gab, she could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. The only place that quieted her lively spirit was church, where her deep Catholic faith inspired reverence and devotion throughout her life.
Together, Irene and Donald shared a love for collecting antiques, always appreciating the beauty and stories hidden within each treasured piece. They also enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach and Florida, where Irene could often be found soaking up the sunshine. An expert sunbather, she embraced every warm day with a smile.
Her outgoing personality made volunteering at the local polling places a natural fit, where she spent many years greeting neighbors and making new friends. She also enjoyed trying her luck at the slot machines during trips to the casino and never missed an opportunity to cheer on her beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Though she lived nearly a century, Irene's greatest legacy was not measured in years but in the countless lives she touched with her kindness, hospitality, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, August 3, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at BEINHAUERS, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray (724-941-3211).
