JACK PHINNEY Obituary
PHINNEY
JACK
Of Murrysville, PA, passed away on April 6, 2026, after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Pittsburgh on February 25, 1945, to his parents, Virginia and Carl Phinney. Jack is survived by his adoring wife of 61 years, Regina (Bronder) Phinney; and his daughter, Diane Roberts-Scanlan (RJ). He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jack Phinney, Jr. (Kristin); and his cherished granddaughter, Cailyn Phinney. He is also survived by nine granddaughters, Jillian Phinney (Nick), Mariel Phinney, Allie Hapach (Nick), Elise Fetrow (Mike), Kara Scanlan, Andi Trageser, Katrina Trageser, Quinn Phinney, and Tegan Phinney; as well as two great-granddaughters, Aubrey Phinney and Margo Fetrow. He is also survived by his loving sister, Marlyn Bell (the late Dr. Carl Bell); along with numerous nieces and nephews who will deeply miss him. Jack's four-legged companions, Ju-Ju and Johnny; and his best buddy, Bob, will also miss him dearly. Jack was the legendary "Girl Pap." He was always the first to celebrate his granddaughters' and great-granddaughters' achievements, and, more importantly, he was always there to comfort and support them through life's challenges. Jack worked at the Pittsburgh Press/Post-Gazette for 42 years. Following his retirement, he went on to work with individuals with special needs at Clelian Heights School in Greensburg. There, he felt humbled to share in the students' daily triumphs. He loved his work and had a natural gift for connecting with others. Jack was known for his ability to make people laugh, even in life's most difficult moments. A memorial service will be held on May 23, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m., in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack's name to Clelian Heights School. To send online donations, visit www.mason-gelder.com.
