AYRES
JAMES BURTON
Of Greensburg, formerly of McCandless Twp.
James Burton Ayres left this world on May 23, 2025. He came into the world on November 5, 1939, at Sewickley Hospital, born of the late Mary Ethel (Wall) and the late Burton Henderson Ayres. He was a loving husband, amazing father/Pap-Pap, and beloved brother. He was a graduate of Avalon High School and Dean Institute of Technology. Jim was an extremely hard worker, always holding at least two jobs up until his full and final retirement at the age of 79. He worked as a steelworker for twenty years at the Aliquippa Works of LTV Steel, starting when it was still J&L Steel. Following the collapse of the steel industry and theft of his pension by the corporate elites, which the U.S. government thankfully stepped in to help replace, he started his own business, Ayres Contracting, which he maintained up until his late sixties. He also worked for the numerous school bus companies that provided service to the North Hills School District for over 50 years. Prior to his health catching up to him, he was always in motion. If he wasn't working outside the home, he was always working to improve his home or taking day trips in the area with his beloved wife of 58 years, the late Janet Marlene (Ogilvie). He is survived by sons, Jeff (Georgette), Jim (Pam), and David Ayres; his grandchildren, Brewer, Liam (Elizabeth), Dean (Ezra), Gillian (Brady), Will, Chloe, and Wyatt; his siblings, Jerry (Linda), Joan Grady (Jack), and Beth; his brother-in-law, James Ogilvie (Karen); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Janet; his siblings, Mickie Flaherty, Pat Ference, Nancy McAllister, and Michael; and his sisters-in-law, Lois "Dee Dee" Lalama and Doris Connolly. Friends will be received at LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME INC., 460 Lincoln Avenue, Bellevue, on Friday, from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and from 6 P.M to 8 P.M. A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (heart.org) or the McKnight United Methodist Church (600 Fox Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15237).
