JOAN M. (OPEST)

Age 82, of Monroeville, peacefully passed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at her residence. Beloved wife of William Syrek. Loving mother of William (Karen) Syrek, Jr., Regina "Gina" (Scott) Ferri and Melissa "Missy" (Russ) Kosits; adored grandmother of Andrew, Megan, Brendan, Jason, Grace, Timothy and Anna; sister of Rose Marie (Joe) Matthews and Thomas (Marian) Opest; mother-in-law of Lisa Syrek; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Joan was a member of the American Sewing Guild and heavily involved in the Ladies of Charity at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. In her early 30s, Joan started her career as a seamstress for the Horne's Fashion Shows in Pittsburgh. From there, her career grew into a business as a bridal seamstress for many bridal shops in the Pittsburgh area. Joan also had a passion for polka dances and loved attending them with her husband, Bill, and their friends. In her pastime, she enjoyed traveling, being with family, and especially loved spending time at her house in the mountains. Friends will be received Thursday, November 13, 2025, 3-7 P.M., at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL), 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville, PA 15145 (412-856-4747). Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Church-Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish Friday, November 14, 2025, 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
