Peacefully, on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Joanne L. McDonald, age 81, of Ross Twp. Born on December 2, 1943 to Anna and Joseph Naegelen, Joanne was a graduate of Avalon High School and lived a life rooted in faith, compassion and service to others. She is the beloved wife of Ed McDonald; devoted mother of Stephen McDonald and David (Jessica) McDonald; cherished grandmother of Lindsey, Jackson, Brady, Kennedy and Brennan, who brought her immense pride and joy. Joanne was a proud member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish and worshiped at both St. Teresa of Avila and St. Sebastian Churches. Her faith guided her life and work, including her dedicated service as a social services professional. She made a lasting impact both as an employee with Children's Liturgy of the Word and Little People's Church and as a long-time volunteer at Jubilee Soup Kitchen. Joanne's warmth, strength and unwavering commitment to helping others leave behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. Friends will be received 1-3 and 6-8 p.m., on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME INC., 7720 Perry Hwy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Monday, June 2, 2025, in St. Teresa of Avila Church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 800 Avila Ct., Pittsburgh, PA 15237. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church's Spark of Hope Program or to the Interfaith Peace Project, 4517 Buckeye Ct., Antioch, CA 94531.
