JOANNE MARIE

Joanne Marie Sperry, 81, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Easter morning, April 5, 2026. Joanne resided in McCandless Township with her husband of 57 years, Charles Sperry. She will be remembered most for her generosity and servant's heart.

Joanne was born on January 8, 1945, to the late August and Lillian Mangione. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Duquesne University, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned her master's degree in nursing. She dedicated her tireless work ethic to a distinguished career in nursing and nursing education. As a devoted educator, she mentored and inspired countless nurses throughout the Pittsburgh area. She retired in 2008 after a long career as Director of Mercy School of Nursing.

Joanne's love, selflessness, and deep devotion to her family built a strong foundation for generations. She is survived by her adoring husband, Charles Sperry; her children, Lauren (Doug) Lipinski, Nicole (Neil) Glover, and Dr. Mark Sperry (Jill Ambrose); and her cherished grandchildren, Drew (Kristine) Lipinski, Leah Lipinski, August Glover, Jude Glover, Josephine Sperry, and Charles Sperry. She is also survived by her sister, Dr. Antoinette Mangione (Leonard Ardieta), and was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Mangione (Dolores).

A love of learning and education was a priority in Joanne's life. She was an avid reader with a particular interest in medicine and history, and she cultivated academic enthusiasm with her grandchildren while generously supporting their educational pursuits.

Joanne had an unwavering commitment to building meaningful relationships and was happiest when serving others and creating lasting memories with her family. A loyal friend, she valued staying connected through shared meals, hospitality and dinners with her neighborhood gourmet cooking club. She also found tremendous joy in nature and gardening and had a gift for creating beauty all around her.

Visitation will be held at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, 7720 Perry Highway, on Thursday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A celebration of Joanne's life will be held at Orchard Hill Church on Friday, April 10, at 12:00 p.m.

Joanne lived with grace, even through the challenges of Alzheimer's disease. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
