JOHN ANTHONY
John Anthony Gill was born on September 27, 1947, at the Pittsburgh Hospital (now Forbes Center for Rehabilitation).
He died on April 21, 2026, at Ivy Park Acute Care Nursing Home in Pittsburgh while under the loving care of Affinity Care Hospice.
John was dearly loved by his father J. Alfred Gill (deceased), his mother Joan A. Gill of Zelienople, his brother Joseph A. Gill Jr. of Millvale and his two sisters Jennifer A. Gill of Los Angeles and Janet A. Gill of West Sunbury.
In his youth he enjoyed his summers at the family's island home in Beaumaris (Ontario, Canada) where he learned to sail and to love being on the water. He graduated from high school in Guelph, Ontario when he volunteered for the U.S. Coast Guard and served in Vietnam as well as stateside. He later attended the University of Denver and graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
John was a lover of books and fine art and volunteered as a docent at the J. Paul Getty Museum while a resident of Los Angeles.
He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Shadyside.
His remains were donated to CORE (Center for Organ Recovery and Education) and his brain was offered to Harvard Brain Research. Due to his recent stroke at the nursing home, his brain was excluded from Harvard.
He will be interred at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies where his family will have a private celebration of his life.
