On July 27, 2025, John C. McLaughlin, age 95, of McCandless Township, passed away peacefully. Beloved grandfather of Joseph Ralph (Tressa) Chester and Jessica (Joseph) Vuckson; proud great-grandfather of Jacey, Abbey, and Callie Conti, and Jordan and Jacqueline Vuckson; father-in-law of Ralph Chester; cousin of Jo Anne Whelan. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Linda Anne Chester.
Born and raised on the North Side of Pittsburgh, John was a member of Saint Peter Catholic Church. He served his country honorably, beginning in the U.S. Army and completing his military service in the U.S. Air Force. A skilled pilot, John owned and flew his own aircraft-a lifelong passion he truly enjoyed.
John dedicated his professional life to the Pittsburgh Police Department, where he served with distinction in many roles, from beat cop to retiring as a homicide detective. Throughout his life, he built strong and lasting friendships and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Friends will be received Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway, where a Blessing Service will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
